Computer Clock Sychronisation for Connecting to Shipplotter Servers

In order to be able to share with a shipplotter server, your computer clock needs to be synchronised with an accurate clock, a time server basically. This is also true for the shipplotter server which also must be synchronised in a similar way otherwise there is no point to synchronise the clocks of the connecting clients.

If this is not done and your clock remains a significant amount of seconds off then you will be uploading and downloading no ships. It is guaranteed that a computer clock will not be able to keep accurate time without periodically connecting to a time server.

  NTP.org Time Servers

I prefer using the NTP.org time servers.
Since I am in europe i use the europe.pool.ntp.org

Setting synchronisation to the NTP.org Time Servers

In XP or 2000 go to the command prompt and enter the following commands. You can change the bold part to whatever server you like.

  net time /setsntp:europe.pool.ntp.org

If you have xp then the w32time service is already started and will load automatically

if you have win2k then type

  net start w32time

Anyway its important to double check to see if the services is starting automatically.

So go to START / SETTINGS / CONTROL PANEL / ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS / SERVICES

and find Windows Time and right click on it, choose properties

Check the startup type is "automatic" or change it to that. Make sure the service is started and click ok.
