Katas of the UK make two products for upgrading the Nasa AIS Engine to overcome it's limitations. These are the Onboard for AIS Engine which is about 59 pounds and the AMC all messages chip which is about 25 pounds. They also make a range of AIS receivers.
Sheng Jay Automation Tech make the SJ-8912R Dual Channel AIS Receiver. The SJ-8912RG which is a different model includes an integral GPS unit and is more expensive. European distributor is MC-Marine.
